Guitarist Alberto La Rocca has always loved to wander among different musical experiences, choosing his personal way.
In 1994, for instance, he came to conceive a guitar with a greater number of strings (ten) and a particular tuning, not only extending to the low tones, but also to the high ones.
In 2009 he renewed the technique of sound production through the use of fingerpicks of his own production.
In addition to performing the repertoire of the most well-known guitar composers, from its origins to the present day, he devotes himself to the discovery and performance of little-known authors.
He also dedicates himself to the performance of works by composers who have not composed for guitar; many are in fact his transcriptions for guitar of authors from various genres and ages.
Besides, his activity as an interpreter goes alongside with that of composer, populizer and teacher.
The primary aim in his compositions is to attain to a personal language, immersed in the present but at the same time well aware of the past, thus overcoming the gap between what is considered cultured and popular. His music often crosses the border between composition and improvisation, with the introduction of new techniques of structuring the musical form.
As a populizer, he is responsible for spreading little-known repertoires such as contemporary music, early music and ethnic music, as well as tracing the links between music and other art forms.
As a teacher, he has created a method for an orientative study of guitar, in order to provide the basis for various musical genres, while developing the student’s creativity through compositional and improvisational activities.
He also works as a painter, an illustrator and a calligrapher.
